The Situation of International Airlines at Tan Son Nhat Airport: Reality and Challenges to Overcome
Tan Son Nhat International Airport is one of the largest airports in Vietnam. It serves not only domestic passengers but also many international airlines. Recently, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority conducted inspections of foreign airlines operating there. The results revealed important information about these airlines’ operations.
Inspection Results
The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority announced the inspection results from September 30 to November 5, 2024. Foreign airlines operating at Tan Son Nhat have generally complied with Vietnamese civil aviation regulations. However, some issues still need addressing.
In terms of aircraft operations, airlines have been issued Foreign Air Operator Certificates (FAOC) and operate regular flights as per their seasonal flight permits. This indicates that they are adhering well to aircraft operation regulations.
Aviation Security
Regarding aviation security, airlines have received approval for their security programs from the Civil Aviation Authority. These programs have been endorsed by local aviation authorities. Airlines have also conducted training for their staff on aviation security, ensuring the safety of flights.
Additionally, airlines have informed passengers about aviation security regulations, helping them better understand airport security procedures. However, further improvements are needed to enhance passenger awareness.
Service Quality
The quality of passenger services at the airport is also crucial. Airlines have established, implemented, and communicated their passenger service procedures. They have generally adhered to regulations regarding non-refundable advance compensation.
Nonetheless, some airlines still face challenges in service provision, with instances of flight delays, interruptions, or cancellations. According to regulations, airlines must provide flight status information to the airport. They also need to arrange staff to inform and assist passengers.
Issues to Address
Despite many positive results, some airlines have not fully complied with regulations. For instance, Korean Airlines (KE), Eva Air (BR), and Japan Airlines (JL) have not been granted rights for regular air transport to and from Vietnam, complicating their operations at Tan Son Nhat.
Moreover, airlines like KE, Asiana Airlines (OZ), Emirates (EK), JL, Singapore Airlines (SQ), China Airlines (CI), and Cambodia Angkor Air (K6) have not provided flight delay information to the Southern Airports Authority, inconveniencing passengers and affecting their reputation.
China Airlines also failed to notify passengers about the delay of flight CI177 on November 2, 2024, and did not apologize as required, indicating shortcomings in customer care.
Compensation Issues
Some airlines do not provide compensation as stipulated, causing frustration among affected passengers. Additionally, some airlines do not disclose cancellation information, leading to a lack of transparency in complaints.
Conclusion
The inspection results from the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority indicate that foreign airlines at Tan Son Nhat have complied with many regulations. However, numerous issues remain to be addressed. To enhance service quality, airlines need to improve their communication processes with passengers.
Compliance with aviation security regulations and service quality is crucial. This not only helps protect passengers but also enhances the reputation of the airlines.
